Hot lunches are back! Make sure you turn those order forms in. The first hot lunch day will be February 5. If you need the google forms link again, please let me know.
We are running low on clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. So, if you can start sending some more in, that will be greatly appreciated. The memory work for the week comes from Ephesians 4:32. It is due February 2 → And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. It is almost time for us to start our Black History month project. The project will be done strictly at home. On Monday, they brought home a list of people to choose from for their research project. On Thursday, they will bring home a folder of information that will help them with getting started on their project. The project is due Thursday, February 25.. The information will also be found on Google Classroom in case they misplace things. Math: We will wrap up our 5th topic on Wednesday and begin to move into the reviewing stages. We covered a lot of good things in this topic, so we will spend a good amount of time reviewing. I recommend having them redo the Khan Academy lessons that we’ve done, using their flashcards, and continue to write multiplication and division problems. We will take our test on Tuesday, February 2. Reading: This week, we are learning about poetry. We will spend some time learning about limerick and free verse poetry. We will also begin to learn about some more forms of figurative language such as alliteration and rhyme. In Grammar, we will learn about singular and plural possessive nouns. Outside of those new things, we will review folktales, similes, and point of view. Important Dates:

Hot lunches are back! The first hot lunch day will be February 5th. You should have received an email with the google form information earlier today.
Tomorrow is remote Wednesday, but it will be a little abnormal. Throughout the school, teachers are freeing up class periods so that families may watch the Inauguration together if they choose to. However, it is not a mandatory thing. On Thursday, we will have a brief discussion about it, but there will not be an assignment that they will need to complete. Math: We are making our way through topic 5. On Friday, we began looking at multiplication and division word problems. At first, there was some panic, but as the lesson progressed, we began to feel comfortable with them. The rest of the topic will focus on us solving word problems and creating our own. Reading: We are still focusing on expository text and the author's point of view. Our topic this week is on animals and how we can help them survive. We will read about sea turtles, whooping cranes, and this company called PAWS. Throughout the rest of the week, the students will begin to apply the things that we learned from last week. We will learn about suffixes this week and how some words have BOTH suffixes and prefixes. For spelling/phonics, we are focusing on three-letter blends (SCR, THR, SPL, SPR, and SQU). Challenge them to think of other words outside of their spelling words that follow the three-letter blends that we are learning. Important Dates:
Again, welcome back & Happy New Year! I’m so glad that we’re all back together, and tomorrow we get to be all together in the classroom. As we prepare for our in-school learning sessions to resume, we have to prepare our bags with the things that we will need. Below you will find what they will need to bring on Wednesday and Thursday. Once all of these items are in, we’ll be ready to rock and roll.
Wednesday:
Math: We are moving along in topic 5, which is teaching us to look for patterns inside of a multiplication table. This topic will also cover multiplication and division word problems. So, it would not hurt to have them start working on them now. Science: We are moving through our weather unit. In this first chapter, we will learn how water affects the weather. We will spend a little extra time learning about the water cycle, and how it affects the weather all around us. As we move throughout this unit, they will be learning and taking notes on the weather so they can build a structure that can withstand different weather conditions. Reading: With the second half of the year upon us, we are switching to weekly units. Before, we would spend two weeks on a topic, but future units will mostly be review with some new additions. So, that means that there will be a reading and spelling test every week. This week we are reviewing expository text while focusing on the author's point of view. We are also going to spend some time working with prefixes and silent letters. Our main topic is the government and how voting helps make the government work. So, we will read a lot of stories and informational text on voting and why it is important. Important Dates:
