Thank you for sending in wipes and hand sanitizer! This Friday is the last day of trimester 2, so any missing work will be due then. Next week will be a short week with parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, March 4th, and no school on Friday, March 5th.
The memory work for the week comes from Genesis 1:27. It is due March 2 → “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.” Math: We are deep in our area unit. They say this is the easiest unit they’ve had all year, which made me happy to hear. They also seem to be having fun with it, so that’s also a plus. Unit six is one of the shorter units that we have, with us having six lessons. So, we are almost done and will aim to take the test during the week of March 8th. Reading: We started a new unit this week, but the topics are mostly things we’ve covered before. We are focusing on historical fiction, where we are learning about Abraham Lincoln. We are also revisiting cause and effect and how we can use that skill to help us sequence the events in a story. We are also spending some more time with prefixes. Our new focal topics include present-tense verbs, r-controlled vowel sounds /ar/ and /or/, and idioms. We will spend time throughout the week diving deep into all of these topics. Social Studies: We are almost done with chapter 3, as we have one more lesson. Unlike with chapters 1 and 2, we will not have a test. We will take a small quiz and complete a project in class. Both will be used to demonstrate learning of the topics from the chapter. I’ve put aside some time for them to present their projects to the class. I will record their presentations and put them on Class Dojo for your to enjoy! Important Dates:

The newsletter for the week is a short one as we have a very short week. The trimester ends next Friday, so any missing work is due then. There is a list in Tuesday folders that includes all of the missing assignments. If you do not see one in the folder, then all of their work has been turned in. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Black History Month projects are due next Thursday, February 25. By now, they should be finishing up their reports and working on their posters. If they need help with anything, please let me know. Science: We finished our practice test today and will begin working on our science structures for the rest of the week. On Friday and Monday, we will play a review game, and they will receive a review guide. The science test will be Tuesday, February 23. Reading: We will not start a new unit this week, as we only have three days. So, we will review most of the topics covered last week. We will focus heavily on plot, theme, and main idea. We are starting our new writing unit this week, which focuses on personal narratives. We will spend some time reading some examples before we dive into writing our own. Important Dates:
Thank you for sending in wipes and hand sanitizer. Please keep sending them in as we use them multiple times throughout the day.
Our Valentine's Day Party is Thursday. The students are encouraged to bring in cards & treat for their friends. Math: We are moving into our new topic, which is focusing on area. We are easing our way through this and will take a couple of days on each lesson. By the end of the unit, they will be finding the area of shapes using multiplication, so please continue to have them practice their multiplication facts. Reading: We are starting a new unit this week focusing on new topics. We are learning about folktales and how they always have a lesson in them. We will spend some time learning how to identify the lesson by looking at the plot and the steps the characters took to solve the problem. In phonics, we are learning about r-controlled vowels and contractions. Science: We’ve finished the last lesson in chapter 3, so we are getting ready for the review stages. We will also take some time building our structures based on what we learned in this chapter. As of right now, the test will be on February 19. However, I've put away time on February 23, if we need more time for studying and working on the project. Important Dates:
We have some strange weeks among us. This week we have our math, reading, and language usage map test. Due to map testing, they won’t have homework outside of studying for their math test and working on their BHM project. The week of the 8th and the week of the 15th will be four day weeks. We will not have school on February 12 or February 15.
Third grade is running low on Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. So, if you would like to donate some to the class, that would be awesome. Math: We have wrapped up chapter 5 and have moved into the reviewing stages of things. Our test was scheduled for today, but it’s been pushed back to this Thursday. As they begin to study and prepare on their own, have them go over the review sets that we completed on page 287-290. They should also review the practice test on pg. 291-294. Important Dates:
