We made it through the second week! We struggled with following directions, staying on task and not talking while others are talking. Today was a better day, so I am hoping we will start to get into a groove.
We are focusing a lot of time on community. We talk about our classroom expectations and how one of the rules is “do not say words that hurt.” We talked about different phrases that can hurt, and even how laughing at someone's mistake can hurt as well. We are still working on the laughing factor but I am confident we will figure that out as well! The memory verse that is due September 15 is Psalm 119:9-10: How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments. Technology: We practice using our computers everyday. I try to allow them to do different activities so they can become familiar with the program, but also master logging in/out. We will continue to use technology to enhance our learning and make it fun. Today they brought their computers home. They shouldn’t need to type their username, however if they do it is gls[first name][last name initial]26. So, an example would be glsrobinw26. The password is Grace2026. If you have any trouble with the computer please let me know. Reading: We are wrapping up our unit this week. On Friday they will have their first reading test and spelling test. We will continue to work through the unit focal points such as synonyms, sentences & fragments, statements & questions, fantasy, and character charts. Math: Today we spent some time reviewing lesson 1-3. It was obvious that my friends were confused down the line. It was also obvious that they did not refer back to the problems we did together in class. Please encourage them to look back at the questions we did in class as they are doing their homework. I always cover the questions that I know will be on their homework so that they have an example to follow. We will finish out the topic on Friday. Next week, we will take Monday and Tuesday to review. On Wednesday we will play a review game so they are ready for the test on Thursday. Important Information:
