We have reached the part in the school year where things are settling down, and we are mastering our routines. We are still ironing out whole body listening and listening to ALL directions before asking questions.
Walk-a-thon is this Friday! It is a half-a-day, so dismissal will begin at 11:30 am. The last day to bring canned food items, toiletries, and water is Thursday. On Thursday, my friends will bring home their walk-a-thon shirts. Please be sure to have them wear that along with a comfortable pay of shoes. They should also bring a reusable water bottle as we will be outside walking. There will be water stations that pass out water bottles as well. Picture day is October 5, with the rain date being October 6. Students will have their pictures taken outside, and we are asking parents to assist with bringing children down to take their pictures. If you have not already signed up and would like to, please feel free to let us know. If you have not already turned in the picture form, you still have time. The last day to bring in the form is on Monday, October 5. Math: We are wrapping up our second topic. We have a couple more lessons before we move into the reviewing stage of things. The projected date for the test is Thursday, October 8. Please continue to have them work on their 0,1,2,5,9, and 10 facts. Reading: We are moving into a new topic, this one being on communities. We are bridging off our previous topic, traditions. During this unit, we will talk about communities, and how they look and work. We will talk about how people can share their culture in their community. We will read a few autobiographies and discuss how they tie in with our essential questions; “How do people from different cultures contribute to a community?” In writing, we are wrapping up our friendly letter unit. We will move into our new unit next week, which is on paragraphs. We will practice writing paragraphs to prepare us for longer writing projects. Social Studies & Science: We are approaching the end of our first topic. We have a couple more lessons before we start reviewing. Before we review, we will finish our quest project activity on National Parks and the Pinball Machine. Those two projects will go up on the bulletin board before they bring them home.
