We are making waves in third grade!
Walk-a-thon will be on October 2, which is next week. It will be a half-a-day with dismissal being at 11:30 a.m. Some friends have already started to bring in canned food items and toiletry items. Continue to bring those in. The kiddos are excited to win and would like to win, again! Please be sure to have them wear comfortable shoes next Friday and bring a reusable water bottle as we will walk just about 3 miles that day. Next Monday and Tuesday, September 28, and September 29, we will finish our map testing. Monday we will take our language usage test and Tuesday we will take our reading map test. On those days, the homework load will be lighter than normal or they may not have any at all. Picture day has been pushed back to October. We are scheduled to take pictures on October 5. If it rains, we will take pictures on October 6. We will take pictures outdoors, and are asking parents to assist with bringing children to have their pictures taken and then brought back to class. You can send the picture form and the money to school as soon as Thursday. The last day to bring it in is October 5. I will send out reminders. Remote Wednesday Notice: This week they will have things to complete in their Wednesday Folder, Savvas, and on Google Classroom. During our sessions, I will show them where to find the independent assignments. Technology: We finally have all of the accounts set up! Yay! So on Monday, they will bring home a sheet that has ALL of their login information. That paper will stay at home, as they will have a copy to keep here at school. That means on Wednesday, I will just include the assignments and schedule for the day in their folder. Math: On Friday we started our new topic which focuses on multiples of 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10. We will spend a couple of weeks with this topic as they will learn some tricks and two new properties for multiplication. In class, I have them using their whole bodies as we are practicing skip counting. Please continue to have them practice their math facts focusing on 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10. Social Studies: As I said in the newsletter last week, we are going to work in two units at once. Two days out of the week, we will complete things inside of our Hispanic Heritage Month unit. We will cover a number of countries, starting with Mexico. We will continue to learn about different traditions, celebrations, and important figures. Like last year, I welcome all ideas.
