We are rocking and rolling in third grade! Every so often we hit a stumbling block but we bounce back. Continue to encourage them to stay focused and to practice whole body listening.
Walk-a-thon was a success! I was so happy to see all of you there. The students really enjoyed their time. There were contests throughout September and we brought in the most money. We won an extra-long recess with a picnic. I, unfortunately, do not know when that will happen but I will let you know. Parent-teacher conferences are this Thursday. They will be 12 minutes in length. I will try to limit myself to 6 minutes so that you have 6 minutes to ask questions and share things as well. I will send out reminders tomorrow and Thursday morning. I look forward to seeing/talking to you all. Math: We have reached the end of our second topic. We have moved into the reviewing stage of things. Our math test will be this Thursday. Topic 3 will move similar to topic 2. We will focus on multiplying using 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 as factors. I recommend continuing to have them practice their math facts. Multiplication with nine as a factor is still hard for some friends, so spend a little time on 9’s. During topic 3, we will also add more properties that will help us with understanding multiplication even more. We will learn about the distributive and associative property. Reading: We are wrapping up our third topic this week. Next week we will move into our fourth topic, which is on inventions. We will also continue working in our paragraph unit. We spent some time already learning the key components of a paragraph and how they work together. During our class discussion, they took the conversation deeper and thought about how paragraphs work within stories and longer essays. I was proud to see them thinking about what we were learning and making the connections. Social Studies: We are wrapping up our Hispanic Heritage Month unit. I tried something new this year with trying to do two units at once, and we, unfortunately, did not cover as many countries as I had hoped. However, the kids have enjoyed the unit so far. They have enjoyed the music and the videos that we have watched. Outside of that unit, we are almost done with our first chapter in our social studies lesson. When we finish lesson 4, we will complete our quest project on National Parks, and then begin the reviewing process. Important Information:
