We are rocking and rolling in third grade! I am very proud of the progress they are making both individually and as a unit.
We are not out of the clear yet in terms of being sick, so please continue to send Clorox wipes. We wipe our desk down every morning and we wipe the lunch tables down after every lunch period. Thank you in advance. On March 9, we will be taking our walking field trip with fourth grade to see Dog Man: The Musical. The student should have brought the forms home last week, however, if you need another one please let me know. You can also find an extra copy on the website's home page. The field trip is $10. So, please return money and form no later than March 6. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Math: We wrapped up topic 7 and moved into topic 8. This topic should be easier as it is on addition and subtraction. However, we are looking at more than just addition and subtraction. We will work with properties, look for patterns, practice rounding and estimating, and try our hands at mental math. We will also look at inverse operations, place values, and compatible numbers. However, continue to have them practice their multiplication facts. The end goal is to have them fluent multiply between 0-10 by the end of the year. Science: We are wrapping up chapter 6. We spent some time last reviewing what we covered. We completed a practice test, and that went well. Today, they will play a review game using jeopardy. The jeopardy game will be emailed out to all of you as well so that they can study at home. Their science test will be Wednesday. Once we finish chapter 6, we will be moving into chapter 7, which is on space. We will be in chapter 7 till about spring break. Writing: Last week we spent some time working with sentences. We looked at run-on sentences, fragments, and the 4 different type of sentences. We will continue to look over these, but we will move into learning about subject and predicates along with simple and compound sentences. We are still working on our narrative pieces. We are all in different places, but the goal is to complete those by the middle of next week. We are working on adding detail and hooks to our writing to make it interesting and intriguing. My hope that this process is helping at home with the BHM project report. Social Studies: We spent some time last week learning some facts about black history, slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. We are now about to learn about some people that played an impactful/important part in history. They will also do some in-class research projects with a partner(s), on different people that will go up on our bulletin board. So, if you're ever up on the third floor, stop by the board to check out their posters. Important dates:
