We are closing in on the finish line! The year has gone by so fast.We are savoring these last days and making the best of our time together. Please be sure to check their Tuesday Folder as it contains their field trip information and permission slip. We are going to Brookfield Zoo on Wednesday, May 22. They will need to bring a sack lunch, something that they can carry and throw away once finished. They will all need a water bottle, and wear comfortable walking shoes.
The lower school musical is this Friday at 7pm. The students need to arrive at 6:30. At that time, they will come up to the classroom and wait for further instructions. I hope to see you all there. Math: We are embarking on our last math journey of the year. We are covering 4 topics at one time. We are wrapping up topic 7, before doing a little bit of 8,9, and 10. In topic 7, we are learning about bar graphs and picture graphs. On Monday, we learned how to read them. Today we learned how to create our own picture graphs, and tomorrow they will learn how to create their own bar graphs. They are having fun with it all, as it is a nice break from newer things. They are simply drawing, adding, subtracting, and multiplying, which are now easy for them. Our last math test will be the Tuesday of the last week of school. Reading: We jumped back into our reading curriculum this week and we will end our reading curriculum last week. The essential question for the week is, "why are goals important?" We spent the first day discussing the essential question and the goals that we set for ourselves. This week we are focusing on biographies, and we are going to read the two biographies on different people who impacted space traveling. In grammar we are focusing on adverbs, which are a little hard for some friends as they confused them with regular verbs. We are taking a break from writing this week, and we are still cruising through our read aloud book, A Night Divided. Science: We are staring chapter 8, which is on ecosystems. We will start off by learning exactly what an ecosystem is. We will then dive into learning about different kind of ecosystems, living and nonliving things inside of different ecosystems, and how ecosystems can change. We will wrap up chapter 8 with our field trip. The kiddos already love the chapter, and I'm sure they will love this field trip as well. Important Dates: 5/17: Musical @ 7pm (students must arrive at 6:30) 5/17: Hot lunch @ Concordia University 5/21: Permission slip due 5/22: Field trip to Brookfield Zoo
