We're having better weeks and hopefully things continue to improve. Field trip forms will be coming home Thursday. We will be going to the Museum of Science and Industry next week. Some friends have missing assignments, please encourage them to do them by Friday. I sent home extra copies, and if I didn't then it is still in their math or YT book. If you have any questions please let me know.
Religion: We are running chapel tomorrow so if you can please stop by and see all of their hard work unfold. Chapel starts at 8:30. I hope to see you there. :) You still have time to send in more soup cans and crackers tomorrow, so please continue to do that. They will begin to have their Christmas Eve Service memory work next week and it will be challenging as they have to remember songs and verses. Writing: We are moving into the final drafts of our biographies and they will make their way up onto the bulletin board along side their picture. The kiddos are excited for them to go up. Reading: This week we are focusing on one of my absolute favorite things, poetry. We are learning about limericks and free verse poems. We read some silly ones and the students will get a chance to write some of their own pieces. We are also learning about alliteration and rhyming and the impact that they have on poetry. Metaphors and similes circled back around as they are important in the figurative language world. The essential question is "how do people figure things out?" We spent some time discussing that and they will read some poems about people who solve a problem. The challenge word for the week is imagine. Math: We are powering through topic 4 and we are trying to reinforce our multiplication skills as we enhance our division skills. During tech time, Wednesdays and Fridays, we spend time on Khan Academy working through both multiplication and division. Khan academy allows them to see the things we are learning in new ways, which is helping them with figuring out the answers to the problems that we are working on. We did a little check-in game quiz last week and I can tell that we need to spend another week with this topic before we move on. Science: We finished our egg experiment and we learned that corn syrup will make an egg shrink/shrivel up and that water will either make it grow or do nothing. We also learned that if you let an egg sit in vinegar long enough it becomes so clear that you can see through it. A lot of friends accidentally popped their eggs and were sad. We are finishing up chapter 2, and the field trip will coincide with this chapter. Important Dates:
