It seems like the kiddos are finally settling into third grade. We are having better weeks in terms of behavior and following directions. We haven't been as kind to each other lately, so we are still working on bucket dipping and making sure we are filling up baskets. During our town hall meeting on Friday, we took some time to give out compliments and thank someone, and it seem like everyone liked being about to give and receive them. We survived our first field trip! I will do better with giving out notices ahead of time. We started out Christmas Eve service memory work this week. It is on a green sheet. If they have not given it to you, please ask them for it. If you need another copy let me know.
Reading: I decided to give ourselves some what of a break this week. Instead of moving into a new unit, we are reviewing the skills we learned in this unit. We are going to review how to make predictions, theme, and authors point of view. They will take a unit test which will take about two days to finish. They will bring part of it home on Thursday and finish the rest here at school. Please allow them to this independently. You can help them but try to refrain from "leading" them to the answers. We will have the final drafts of our biographies done by Friday and they will begin to go up next week. Math: We are wrapping up the unit this week and the math test will either be Friday or Monday. I am aiming for Friday, but as we begin to review I will know more. We are using khan academy more these days as it is helping to reinforce the skills we are learning in class. As a whole, we are getting better with our multiplication and division, and we are now throwing math language into the mix. Science: We finished chapter 2 and we had a successful time at MSI. We will take some time this week to talk about how our field trip goes along with what we learned in class. We are also going to take some time to create a study guide together, so that they feel confident on Friday when we take our test. Social Studies: We are back in our social studies book. We reviewed lesson one that we started many moons ago with a fun Kahoot. We are learning about the government and how it was started. We learned that the United States is a republic and the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are important documents for our country. On Monday, we watched a School House Rock Video about the Constitution. We will watch the other School House Rock video on the Bill of Rights. As we move throughout this unit and chapter we will do a lot of fun activities that allow the students to have some hands on experience and allow us to continue to grow as a community.
